Vama Buzaului is a commune in Brasov County, Romania.

It is composed of four villages: Acris, Buzaiel, Dalghiu and Vama Buzaului.

History

The Buzau Mountains are a set of five mountain ranges in Romania which are part of the Curvature Carpathians region of the Outer Eastern Carpathians.

These five mountain ranges are named Penteleu, Siriu, Podu Calului, Monteoru, and Ivanetu.
In the Pass of Tabla Butii from the Ciucas Massif, the Order of the Knights of Teutons was built, a fortress, known in documents as “Cruceburg” (Fortress of the Cross) and was used as a defense bastion and a border customs point.

After 1699, when Transylvania came under the domination of the Habsburg Empire, the Customs Office was lowered down the Buzau River, and after 1700, residents settled around the customs point, developing the Vama Buzaului region. The name of the locality comes from the customs point in the Buzau river springs, on the passage between Transylvania and Wallachia, says the brochure of promoting the locality.

You can still see the old barracks of the border guards, but also the remains of the seven festungs, fortifications with walls that were built around the military camps. There is a touristic path arranged and marked up to them.

Tourist attractions

The Natural Reserve of the Zimbri valley of Vama Buzaului (10 km from Dalghiu). It stretches over 12 hectares and has 22 animals  (County Road)

Howling Waterfall (Cascada Urlatoarea – Ciucas) – 10 km from Sat Dalghiu. – County road + paved road

The Legend of Howling Waterfall (Cascada Urlatoarea):

The waterfall has a legend that gives its name. The legend has it that the sound of waterfall descending over the rocks is like a howl, and the locals say that the witches lived here in the old times and the noise would come from them, which still haunts the area around the waterfall.

Many people say that the water here is extremely clean and helped them in stomach diseases. They always come with the drums to take water from the cascade. “If the Dacians drank here, why not drink. Water comes from the top of the mountain, it is clean and has properties that help to stomach diseases. I have not had any burns since I have been drinking water here, “said Ioan Fotea,  a local. However, there is no research to confirm the therapeutic qualities of water.

In the waterfront area are picnic venues with wooden tables and chairs that fit perfectly with the natural decor. Here you can relax and admire the waterfall. You can breathe a healthy portion of fresh air. The area is an oasis of silence.
