A cunning and ruthless king, Amulius, seized the throne, deposing his brother, Numitor. Determined to secure his rule, Amulius committed a horrific act: he ordered the death of his young nephews – the twins Romulus and Remus – by throwing them into the Tiber River.

A miraculous survival
Those who carried out the king’s order did not throw the twins into the water but put them in a basket. Instead of drowning, the twins were carried to safety by the gentle currents of the Tiber. Their basket stopped at the river bank, where an extraordinary guardian awaited them. A she-wolf, attracted by their cries, took them under her care. She fed them with her milk, protecting and nurturing them as if they were her own young.
Under the she-wolf’s watchful eyes, the twins grew strong and resilient, their survival nothing short of a miracle.
A Fight for Justice
As young men, Romulus and Remus discovered the truth of their royal lineage. Fueled by the desire for justice, they set out to confront the usurper who wronged them. With courage and cunning, they defeated King Amulius, placing their grandfather Numitor in his rightful place on the throne of Alba Longa.
The Foundation of Rome
With the past avenged, the twins turned their attention to a new dream: building a city that would stand the test of time. They chose a site on seven hills near the Tiber River, but their shared vision soon turned into rivalry. Unable to agree on the name of the city, they sought the will of the gods.
Romulus and Remus were watching the sky for a divine sign. When Romulus saw several eagles – a symbol of the gods – he declared himself the chosen ruler. The dispute turned deadly when Romulus killed his brother, solidifying his place in history as the founder of Rome.
