Castelului Lake on Meledic Plateau – royal castle or not?

The legend has it that here, Queen Elizabeth, enchanted by the beauty of the landscapes, initially wanted to build the royal Castle here, where there is also a Dacian sanctuary. The construction started in 1882, on the plateau of the salt mountain from Manzalesti, near the lake called “Eye of God” (Castelului Lake), a construction was erected that resembled the current Peles Castle. Another legend has it that Carol I visited this place and wanted to rise the royal castle here.

Most likely a noble family wanted to build a castle here. Work began but was later abandoned, and the locals took its stones and bricks.

The royal castle would have risen on the hill to the lake’s left.

Close your eyes and imagine yourself standing at the Mud Volcanoes in Berca, Romania. As you open your eyes, you are greeted by a stunning sight: an arid and desolate landscape that seems to stretch on forever, with salty crusts and jagged rocks dotting the land. The whole scene looks like something out of a science fiction movie, with the barren expanse resembling the surface of the moon.
